It's hard to design and build software that solves real-world problems. People need and want different things. Some want speed, others want flexibility. They want hope and they want sober reality checks. Stop five people and ask each of them what they want from their next job search app, and you'll get five different answers.
Our job is to build something that works for all five.
Why we took AI out of the core
In the last three years the world's changed, and in a lot of ways not for the better. The products you know, trust and love with your career have turned into AI chat interfaces. In the name of convenience and speed, they've taken away some of your agency.
I know, for some people AI has made finding work easier and faster. But as we've come to know with pretty much every product we've ever loved, the honeymoon phase never lasts. The matches start feeling a little less accurate, and you're left hoping the company's priorities, like profits and cost cutting, still line up with yours.
That's why we stripped AI out of the core of MagicCV 2.0. We still use smart tools where they help, and a lot of that runs right on your phone, but they don't run your search. You do. We wanted you to feel like you again, back to steering your job search while we handle the small bits.
Find more jobs like the ones you like
Found a role you like? Hit "More like this" and we'll find you around 30 similar roles from all across the internet in about two seconds.
Here's why that matters. Job searching usually means guessing the right keywords, typing them into five different sites and scrolling through the same listings over and over. And half the time the perfect role is sitting there under a job title you'd never have thought to search for. One company's "Operations Coordinator" is another's "Admin Officer," and you'd miss it.
With "More like this," you don't have to guess. You start from a job you already know you like, and we go looking for the ones that look like it, wherever they're posted. Not just one job board, and not what an algorithm thinks you should want. You pick the starting point, so the results follow your taste, not ours.
Don't like what comes back? Pick a different job and go again. It takes two seconds. And when something catches your eye, save it. Save as many as you'd like and get back to them later, when you've got the time and headspace to apply properly.
Your CV, back on your phone
We brought your CV back to your phone. It stays entirely on-device, which means even when you don't have data, you can open the MagicCV app and use the CV editor, even for jobs that may not be online. You can share your CV with anyone as a PDF, over AirDrop, Bluetooth, WhatsApp. It's all down to you.
Getting it out is easy, but loading it is even easier. Take a picture of your CV and we'll read it using on-device machine learning (from Apple on iPhone, and a third-party provider on Android) and turn it into a working digital CV, ready to set you on your way to the role you actually want. You can also email it to yourself or upload a PDF, then add in whatever details you may have missed.
The small bits we handle
There's so much more we do. We nudge you on jobs you've applied to. And I get it, not everyone knows how to write a follow-up email, so we write one for you, ready and easy to edit. When you hit send, it comes from your mailbox. That means we're not snooping around reading what you and your potential employer are saying to each other.
We'll warn you when we think a job posting might be suspect. Look, this feature isn't perfect, so we'll only ever advise. We'll never block a role from you just because we think it sucks.
And for those times when we can't tell whether a page you're looking at is a job, open the three-dot menu and select "Mark as job." We'll listen.
Back to being you
We didn't build MagicCV 2.0 to do your job search for you. We built it so you can do it better: your CV in your pocket, your emails in your own mailbox, and your search heading where you want it to go. We'll handle the small bits. The rest is all you.
